Liposuction with microcannulas can remove 30-50% of the breast volume with minimal risks and postoperative mortality. Patients who have a high percentage of fat in their breast and who don't desire a significant change in the shape of their breast are good candidates for the procedure. Realistic goals with this procedure include the following results:
This procedure is not recommended for patients who want more than a 50% reduction and who have large pendulous breast that are largely devoid of fat. If the patient desires a significant change to the shape of their breast with an aggressive lift, then other traditional breast lifting procedures would be more appropriate. The vertical mammaplasty or lollipop procedure would be an example. Prior to performing the procedure the patient has to have a normal mammogram. The breast is then measured by a water-displacement method to estimate the volume of each breast. The amount of fat to suctioned is then determined. After the surgery the breast are maximally compressed for 24 hours. The next day the compression is adjusted to a more moderate level. We recommend compression for 1-2 weeks. The final results are usually seen 4-6 weeks after surgery. |
