Marchell’s Breast Augmentation

"Just go for it! Don’t let anything stop you!"

You might not think a mother of five would be likely to have small breasts, but in Marchell's case, you'd be wrong. She said, "I never really developed when I was younger." During her pregnancies she got to experience what it's like to have full breasts, but deflation was always inevitable. As she hit age 39 last year, Marchell's small breasts had lost what little tissue they had due to the expanding and shrinking processes of pregnancy. Worse than A-cup in size, she said, "they were triple A!"

Marchell remembers her adolescent days with good humor, but her unhappiness still comes through when she talks about her girlhood. She recalls that while her friends' bodies changed, nothing much happened to her. "I wore a jacket throughout my entire eighth grade year," she laughed, "even during the summer." And since she was regarded as good looking by the boys her age, she said she overheard comments like, "She'd be perfect if she just had boobs."

Though she had been dreaming about breast augmentation almost all her life, Marchell said her husband needed to think about it a little. "Tony said he loved me just the way I was," she said, but he could also "see my misery. I even hid from him when I undressed." Realizing what larger breasts would mean to Marchell, Tony gave her his complete support.

Marchell used the Internet to research breast augmentation and she looked for a Fresno cosmetic surgeon. After a consultation with another doctor, she met Dr. Lopez last year. Marchell said Dr. Lopez was the right choice for her for two reasons. One was the fact that Dr. Lopez said Marchell was a good candidate for silicone gel implants, which Marchell and Tony agreed both looked and felt more natural than saline.

Beyond the right choice of implants, Marchell found that she and Dr. Lopez just seemed to click. "Breast augmentation is a self esteem thing," noted Marchell. "We connected about that." It made a difference to Marchell to have a woman do her breast augmentation surgery in Fresno. "All my doctors are women. Women know each other's bodies better and they understand how you feel about yourself."

The main obstacle to moving forward for Marchell was her worry about pain associated with breast enhancement surgery. "After having five kids, well, I was just ‘done' with pain," she explained. She went on to relate her experience in some on-line forums where women discuss their breast implants. "Some said the post-surgery pain was incredible, like someone sitting on their chest."

With reassurance from Dr. Lopez, Marchell had her breast implant surgery in Dr. Lopez' Fresno office surgery center in December. Not only was the procedure itself a breeze, taking just about three hours in and out the door, Marchell said she experienced no post-operative pain at all. She said she felt a little bit of soreness on the sides of her breasts for a short time, but nothing you could call "pain." And though she rested off her feet for two to three days, Marchell said she did it as a precaution, not because of any discomfort. "It is surgery, after all, and I just didn't want to do anything to jeopardize the outcome."

"Dr. Lopez is so nice, my husband loved her too. She put both of us at ease."

Marchell said she was back doing many of her normal activities just three days after surgery. And though she did have a small problem with one incision that didn't close as quickly as it should have, Dr. Lopez took care of it right away. "She was unbelievable," said Marchell.

"Dr. Lopez is so nice, my husband loved her too. She put both of us at ease." Marchell noted that Dr. Lopez' nurses and staff are also wonderful. "They took time with us and explained everything."

Now a 36D, Marchell loves her new shape. Her advice to other women who are thinking about breast enlargement in the Fresno area? "Just go for it! Don't let anything stop you!"
