Dr. Quita Lopez, Aesthetic Laser Center in Fresno
As we age, some of us will notice that our breasts change in appearance, and may not be as round and perky as they used to be. This may occur secondary to gaining and losing weight, pregnancy, breast-feeding, or just the changes that come with aging. To restore the breasts to their more youthful look and feel, Dr. Quita Lopez performs breast lift or mastopexy surgery for patients from Fresno, Visalia and throughout the Central Valley.

At our Fresno plastic surgery center, we use the Regnault classification of ptosis (sagging), ranging from pseudoptosis, which is the most minor degree of sagging, to Grade 3 ptosis. Grade 3 ptosis is the greatest degree of sagging, in which case the nipple is located at the lowest contour of the breast with more than 3 cm below the breast fold. Breasts displaying this degree of ptosis typically point toward the ground and are long and pendulous.
Mastopexy surgery or breast lift in Fresno will correct this. If a woman likes the size of her breasts and doesn’t desire a reduction or breast augmentation in Fresno, then a mastopexy alone can be performed. The type of mastopexy depends on the surgeon’s choice and experience, along with the degree of ptosis. Regardless of the type of lift performed, Dr. Lopez strives to create a natural looking, aesthetically pleasing breast with minimal scarring and complications.
The type of mastopexy that Dr. Lopez prefers and has had good success with is the vertical mastopexy or vertical short scar lift, which is also called a lollipop lift. This was popularized by Dr. Madelaine Lejour and is also called the Lejour vertical mammoplasty. Dr. Lopez performs breast lift in Fresno as an outpatient procedure, typically using general anesthesia.
This approach involves an incision around the areola and a short vertical scar that will fade with time. Through these incisions, Dr. Lopez removes excess skin and breast tissue, and moves the entire nipple/areola complex to a higher position on the chest. The nipple stays attached to nerves and blood supply, so it can remain viable and functional after surgery. The size of the areola is also reduced in cases of enlarged areolas. The result is breasts that are firmer, rounder, and more youthful looking and feeling.
This type of breast lift is predicable and creates results that last many years. Dr. Lopez has seen patients years after the procedure and their breasts have retained their shape and the nipple/areola complex is still at the same position. On occasion, Dr. Lopez uses variations on this approach, including the Benelli lift and the anchor shaped incision, but she finds that in most cases the vertical lift offers the most improvement while limiting scarring.
If the patient had minimal breast tissue with breast ptosis, then a vertical lift with breast implants is usually recommended. This is a more complicated surgery to perform, and can be done in stages or at the same time. Please visit our website to see before and after pictures of some of our patients who have had vertical lifts alone and vertical lifts combined with breast augmentation in Fresno.
You will need to have a friend or loved one drive you home from your Fresno plastic surgery procedure, and care for you through the first night. You will be encouraged to walk around after surgery to increase circulation and help minimize the risk of blood clots. Any lifting, reaching, pulling or other more strenuous activities should be avoided to prevent separation at the incision site.
Most patients experience some degree of discomfort, as well as some swelling and bruising following breast lift surgery. These are typically managed with either over the counter or prescription pain relievers, and should not persist for more than a few days. Most of Dr. Lopez’ breast lift patients are able to return to light activities and less physically demanding occupations in approximately 10 days. Changes in appearance and sensation will continue to develop over the course of several months.
Patients who undergo breast lift in Fresno are typically very satisfied with their results. If you are ready to consider breast lift surgery, call our office at (559) 440-9025 to schedule your consultation.
